Sarah Comardelle believes in the power of a shared experience. At a young age, the Nashville resident discovered that she had an innate love for bringing people together, beginning with working at the local speedway in her native Alabama town. What simply started as a part-time job for any 16-year-old quickly turned into a full-time commitment as an operations manager where she oversaw merchandise, ticketing, parking and more. A few years later, Sarah saw an opportunity to unite her community by producing concerts in her hometown; she rented venues, booked acts and even negotiated sponsorships for audio equipment and stage setups.
This natural drive for producing events led Sarah to Nashville’s Belmont University which is acclaimed for its prestigious music business curriculum. During her studies, she was accepted into the school’s volunteer program which allowed her to work industry events and begin to gain a first-hand understanding of the inner workings of high-profile live events including the CMA Awards and the Dove Awards, to name a few. After earning her Bachelor's in Business Administration with an emphasis in Music Business, she began stage managing for various music events in Nashville including the Independent Songwriters Festival where she heard about AMERICANAFEST – the SXSW-style roots music festival and conference produced by the Americana Music Association. After volunteering, she was quickly elevated to running its music business conference, managing over 50 industry panels during the course of three days, and this eventually resulted in a full-time job at the association.
Over the next 10 years, Sarah’s position at the Americana Music Association expanded as she was promoted to festival producer, annually booking around 300 bands for the week-long AMERICANAFEST. Known as a discovery music event for showcasing rising roots artists, the festival also featured headlining acts such as Iron & Wine, Brandi Carlile and Sheryl Crow, which allowed Sarah to create intimate listening experiences for attendees. From listening to more than 2,000 artist submissions to hiring as well as training dozens of stage managers and ordering backline for each musician, she was hands-on in every facet of the major Nashville music festival that consistently drew in over 50,000 attendees from around the world.
During the festival’s off-cycle months at the AMA, Sarah organized multiple fundraising efforts throughout the year including the Cross County Lines Gala which generated thousands of dollars for the not-for-profit. In addition to producing AMERICANAFEST, Sarah was responsible for creating and maintaining the brand of the festival and the association year-round in her role as the director of marketing. The expansion of the Americana brand gave way to her producing a special NYC version of AMERICANAFEST, with acts like David Crosby and Bonnie Raitt performing at Lincoln Center. There, she was also responsible for organizing VIP parties and activations for the two-stage event which capped off Lincoln Center’s Out of Doors concert series. In 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarah spearheaded the association’s pivot to an online music business conference upon the signature Nashville festival’s cancellation. Given that AMERICANAFEST is the primary fundraiser for the organization, she strategized with her team to ensure that the company could still raise money during this unprecedented time in live music.
Following her decade-long tenure at AMA, in 2021, Sarah decided to take on another role to continue providing the best attendee experience possible and accepted a position at the mobile app production company Aloompa as Head of Client Support. During her time at Aloompa, she was responsible for servicing the unique app needs of an array of clients including Coachella, Essence Fest, BravoCon, CrossFit Games and the Circuit of Americas, among others. She worked directly with clients daily to build out and customize each of their mobile apps, tailoring the software with the attendee’s perspective at the forefront.
Sarah prides herself on having a deep understanding of both her client’s needs and their attendees’ desires from start to finish. She loves placing herself at the center of each event she’s working on and visualizing every piece of the puzzle from an intuitive footprint with proper signage to the right venue that will accommodate a client’s draw. Her favorite aspect of live event production is being able to bring folks from different walks of life together for a common shared experience. “My passion for live events is firmly rooted in bringing joy to people’s lives,” she says. “Just seeing an attendee smile and enjoying a moment at something I’ve had a hand in makes every single detail worthwhile.”
